Joachim's murdering characteristics:
- Cannibalism
- Rape
- Mutilation
- Strangulation
Method of Killing:
Joachim's method of murder was stabbing with a knife and strangulation. He often targeted women and girls but did kill one man during an attack (Herman Schmitz). Joachim murdered 14 people, but was only convicted for 8. Joachim was very particular about where he killed, only killing in the same place on a few occasions years apart. He would surprise his victims and straggled them quickly. Afterwards, he would strip the body of it's clothes and rape it. He would then mutilate and cut off pieces to be eaten later.
Commonalities between the victims:
Most of the victims of Joachim Kroll were female except for Hermann Schmitz. They were also mostly young with the exception of a 61 year old victim they were mainly children for whom he had a preference. At the beginning and throughout his preferred choice of killing was to strangle the victim except for the time when he wanted to see what it would be like to strangle the victim so he drowned a little girl in a ditch filed with water.
